My frame is: flaking, cracked, scratched, turned brown, broken, or pieces are missing. Can you help?
Yes!
Can you gild new frames?
Yes. I am happy to gild just about anything!
What exactly is gilding?
Gilding is the ancient practice of applying the thinnest sheets of gold, silver, or other metals to an object. It is delicate material, so gilded pieces should be cleaned carefully. The gold is so thin that it can be worn away or washed off by rough or unprofessional treatment.
I have an object I would like fixed. What is the usual process?
First we email or talk to ensure that your object falls within my scope of expertise. Then, I examine the object—ideally in person, though sometimes a photograph will suffice. I provide a comprehensive description of the work to be done and the cost; sometimes I give two estimates—one for basic repairs and one for a more comprehensive restoration of the object to its original condition. Then, I get started, to restore your object to the condition it deserves.
I have a painting that needs repair. Can you fix it?
No, but I work closely with people who do specialize in paint and other media. If you like, I can put you in contact with someone appropriate for your artwork.
What about very large frames?
If a frame is too large to bring to my studio, I am happy to work on location.
How long does a project take?
It depends on how large or complicated the project is. There is no standard, but I work to have your beloved object back to you in a timely fashion.
